Twelve models, eleven operators, every number read off the operator's own website on 4 September 2026. This is the first edition of an annual index of what Sydney prestige car hire costs and what the rules are, including the rules most operators do not publish. Drive Tribe is in the tables on the same terms as everyone else.

Why this exists

Search for prestige car hire in Sydney and you get twenty websites, most of which will not tell you the bond, the excess, the kilometre limit or the minimum age until you ring. The daily rate is the least important number on the invoice and the only one anyone advertises. So we did the ringing-around by reading: every operator's published prices for the same cars, and every rule they publish, in one table, with the date it was checked. Where an operator publishes nothing, the table says "not published". That is a finding.

The method is simple and repeatable. We took the twelve models that appear on more than one Sydney fleet, recorded each operator's advertised daily rate for the closest equivalent car, then recorded the six rules that decide the real cost: minimum age, bond, excess, kilometre allowance, delivery and card surcharge. Figures are as published on 4 September 2026; where a site quoted a range, the range is shown; where a figure came from a blog post rather than a booking page it is marked. Nothing here is a quote we obtained privately, because a private quote cannot be checked by you.

Table 1: daily rates for the same models

Daily rate in Australian dollars, as advertised. "-" means the operator does not list that model. Drive Tribe rates are the live fleet rates; a range means more than one car of that model.

Porsche Macan$300-$400 to $500-
BMW X7$300-$700-

Three things stand out. On supercars the market is tight: the Huracan costs $2,500 here, $2,200 at Exotic Car Hire and $2,600 at Prestige Rentals, and the McLaren 650S is $2,600 at both operators that have one. On SUVs the spread is wide: a Range Rover Sport runs from $225 for our 2018 car to $1,500 for Prestige Rentals' Autobiography, and the same badge on a BMW X7 is $300 here and $700 there. And on the AMG C63 S, the car most Sydney fleets carry, four operators land within $250 of each other.

Two lines where Drive Tribe is dearer: the Huracan is $300 a day more than Exotic Car Hire's white car, and our 2025 Mustang GT is $125 more than the figure Prestige Rentals quotes in a blog post (their booking page does not list a Mustang). We would rather print that than leave those rows out.

What the rules table shows

Minimum age is the biggest hidden filter

Of the eleven operators, only three publish a self-drive minimum age. Prestige Rentals and Avis Prestige set 25 for SUVs and sports cars and 30 for supercars. Drive Tribe sets 20 on the luxury, performance and lifestyle tiers, with the M3s at 25, and 25 on exotic and supercar, which makes it the only Sydney boutique operator publishing a self-drive age under 25 for a performance car. The rental majors accept 21 with a daily surcharge of $16.50 (Hertz) to $25 plus GST (Sixt) but restrict which classes an under-25 can take. The largest peer-to-peer marketplace, which several boutique operators now use as their self-drive channel, allows 21 for standard cars, 25 for Deluxe Class and 30 for Super Deluxe.

Bonds run from $500 to $15,000, and most are not published

The published range is enormous. Europcar holds $500 on a prestige car and Hertz $1,000, but both sit behind a separate excess that the bond does not cover. Prestige Rentals and Avis Prestige publish a bond of $5,000 to $15,000 and no separate excess figure. Drive Tribe publishes both and makes them the same number: the bond is the excess, $3,000, $5,000 or $10,000 by tier, and buying cover brings both down together, to as low as $1,200 on a Range Rover or M3. Seven of the eleven operators publish no bond figure at all.

Kilometre allowances are the quiet cost

Prestige Rentals and Avis Prestige publish 100 to 150 kilometres a day, with extra kilometres from $1 to $15 per kilometre depending on the car; a Rolls-Royce runs $15 a kilometre. A Sydney-to-Hunter-Valley weekend is roughly 350 kilometres, so on a 100-kilometre allowance the excess-kilometre bill can exceed the daily rate. Drive Tribe prints the allowance and the extra-kilometre rate on the booking confirmation and quotes a larger allowance up front for a long trip. No other operator in the table publishes a kilometre rule.

Delivery and cards

Prestige Rentals publishes delivery from $150 per way and a 3% surcharge for paying the bond by card. Drive Tribe quotes delivery by distance with the booking and charges 2% on card payments for the rental, with cash and bank transfer free. Everyone else: not published. Exotic Auto Club publishes the most granular fee list of any operator, $2 administration per toll, $400 per damaged rim and a $150 after-hours fee, which is at least honest.

Findings, in order of what they cost you

  1. Ask for the bond and the excess before the daily rate. They range from $500 to $15,000 across Sydney and are the number most likely to surprise you at handover.
  2. Ask for the kilometre allowance. 100 kilometres a day is common where it is published at all, and the excess-kilometre rate on a supercar can be $15.
  3. If you are under 25, only two published paths exist for a performance car in Sydney: Drive Tribe's performance tier at 20 (Mustang, Camaro, Taycan; not the M3) with Young Driver Cover, or a rental major with a daily surcharge and a restricted class list.
  4. Chauffeured operators are a different product. Gallardo Hire and G Class Hire Sydney do not offer self-drive; their prices include a driver and there is no bond because you never hold the car.
  5. Two operators' websites were unreachable on the day of checking (Exotic Auto Club and Sydney Luxury Hire). That is recorded rather than filled in from memory; they will be re-checked in the next edition.

Method and sources

Checked 4 September 2026. Operators were selected from the first two pages of Google results for "luxury car hire Sydney", "exotic car hire Sydney" and "supercar hire Sydney", plus the three rental majors' prestige ranges and the largest peer-to-peer marketplace. Sources, all public on the date shown: Prestige Rentals (fleet page, company terms and their "how much does it cost" article), Avis Prestige and Avis Signature Series pages, Exotic Car Hire fleet page, Exotic Auto Club vehicle pages via search cache, Gallardo Hire and G Class Hire Sydney home pages, Sydney Exotic Car Hire home page, Hertz Australia terms via VroomVroomVroom, Europcar Australia terms via VroomVroomVroom, Sixt Australia rental information, peer-to-peer marketplace policy pages, and drivetribe.com.au/ car and tier pages. Corrections from any operator are welcome and will be published with the date received: email info@drivetribe.com.au.

The next edition is due March 2027. Drive Tribe's own figures are always current on the luxury, sports, exotic and supercar tier pages and on each car's booking page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does prestige car hire cost in Sydney?

As published on 4 September 2026: from about $150 a day for an older luxury SUV to $2,600 to $3,000 for a supercar. The same model varies by up to $900 a day between operators; a Range Rover Sport runs from $225 to $1,500 depending on year, trim and operator.

What is a typical security bond for prestige car hire in Sydney?

Published bonds range from $500 (Europcar prestige) and $1,000 (Hertz) to $5,000 to $15,000 (Prestige Rentals, Avis Prestige). Drive Tribe's bond equals the damage excess, $3,000 to $10,000 by tier, reducible with cover. Seven of eleven operators publish no figure.

What is the minimum age for prestige car hire in Sydney?

Where published: 25 for SUVs and sports cars and 30 for supercars at Prestige Rentals and Avis Prestige; 21 with a daily surcharge at the rental majors; 20 on Drive Tribe's luxury and performance tiers (the M3s are 25) and 25 on exotic and supercar; 21, 25 or 30 on peer-to-peer marketplaces depending on class.

How many kilometres are included in a prestige hire?

Where published, 100 to 150 kilometres a day, with extra kilometres charged at $1 to $15 each depending on the car. Drive Tribe prints the allowance and rate on the confirmation and quotes a larger allowance for long trips.

Is Drive Tribe the cheapest?

Not on every line. The Lamborghini Huracan is $300 a day dearer than one competitor and the Mustang GT $125 dearer than a competitor's blog quote. On SUVs and on the rules (age, bond, kilometres) it is the most transparent and usually the cheapest.

How often is the index updated?

Annually, with the next edition due March 2027. Every figure carries the date it was checked, and operator corrections are published with the date received.
