- Delivered across Sydney
- Bond and fees shown before you pay
- Never swapped to a lesser car
Toyota hire in Sydney at Drive Tribe means three hard-working cars: the 2026 Toyota LandCruiser Prado, the 2026 HiLux Rogue 4x4 and a seven-seat 2022 Kluger GX. They are for families, road trips, snow weekends and jobs that need a tray, not for posing outside a restaurant. All three are self-drive, collected from Mascot or Merrylands or delivered anywhere in Sydney.

Three Toyotas, built for the long way
The Prado, HiLux Rogue and Kluger GX are self-drive and can be delivered anywhere in Sydney. The rate, bond and every fee are on each car's page before you book.
Book nowEnquire nowWhy people hire a Toyota in Sydney
Toyota's reputation in Australia rests on one idea: the cars keep going. The LandCruiser and HiLux names have done hard work in this country for decades, and the Kluger has been a default suburban family SUV for nearly as long. Nobody hires one to be noticed. They hire one because the job matters more than the badge.
That makes our Toyota range different from most of the fleet. The Porsches and the M cars are about the drive itself. These three are about what the drive makes possible: seven people and their bags to the Hunter, a load of furniture across town, a week in the Snowy Mountains with the heater on and the boot full.
Driving one in Sydney is undramatic in the best way. The seats are high, the controls are simple, and the view over traffic on the M4 or the M5 is better than from any sedan. The trade-off is size. The Prado and the HiLux are long and tall, so tight terrace streets in Paddington or Balmain and older car parks in the CBD take more care than they would in a hatchback.
The Toyota cars in our fleet
We have three Toyotas on the fleet today. All three are Lifestyle tier, which sets the bond, the cover options and the kilometre rate shown on each car's page, and all three are self-drive only.
2026 Toyota LandCruiser Prado
The 2026 Toyota LandCruiser Prado is the new-generation Prado: white, square-shouldered and brand new. It runs a 2.8-litre turbo diesel making 150 kW and 500 Nm, drives all four wheels, and reaches 100 km/h in about 10 seconds. That is not quick. What it has instead is strong torque low in the rev range, which is what you feel when it is loaded with seven people and luggage and still pulls cleanly up the mountains.
The standout figure is range: roughly 1,390 km from a tank. On a long weekend you stop for coffee, not diesel, and a Sydney to Jindabyne return trip is within reach of a single fill if you drive gently.
The Prado is engineered for rough off-road work. Our rules keep every car on sealed roads, so that engineering shows up in other ways: a composed ride on broken country bitumen, confidence in heavy rain, and a car that feels unbothered at the end of a six-hour day. It seats seven, and with the third row folded the rear becomes a proper cargo space.

It is based in Mascot, a few minutes from Sydney Airport, which makes it an easy pick-up after a flight. The minimum age is 20. We have written a longer Toyota Prado hire review if you want more detail before you book.
Who it suits: families on a road trip, groups heading to the snow, anyone who wants a tough, high-riding car for a week in regional NSW. Who it does not suit: someone who wants a sharp, fast drive, or who will spend most of the hire parking in the inner city.
2026 Toyota HiLux Rogue 4x4
The 2026 Toyota HiLux Rogue 4x4 is the top-spec version of the new-generation HiLux, finished in silver. It shares the Prado's headline numbers, 150 kW and 500 Nm from a 2.8-litre turbo diesel, with four-wheel drive and a range of about 900 km.

It is a dual cab ute, so you get a five-seat cabin with a tray behind it. Rogue is the comfortable end of the HiLux range: the cabin is civilised enough for the long drive to the snow, and the diesel settles into a quiet cruise at highway speed. Like most utes, it rides firmly over bumps when the tray is empty and settles down once there is some weight in the back.
This is the car for jobs a sedan or SUV cannot do: a mattress, a couple of bikes, garden supplies, a market stall, or wet and dirty gear you would rather not have inside the cabin. Book it for what fits in the tray and the cabin. It is not a towing hire, so if a trailer is part of your plan, call us before you book.

The HiLux is based in Merrylands, in western Sydney. The minimum age for this car is 25, higher than the other two Toyotas, and it is self-drive only.
Who it suits: moving a room of furniture, a weekend with bulky gear, a tradesperson whose own ute is off the road. Who it does not suit: a family of six, or anyone who wants a soft, car-like ride for city errands.
2022 Toyota Kluger GX
The 2022 Toyota Kluger GX is the family car of the three. It is a white seven-seat SUV with a smooth 3.5-litre petrol V6 making 218 kW and 350 Nm, driving the front wheels, with a range of about 760 km.

On paper it is the most powerful Toyota we have, and on the road it feels it. The V6 is quiet and responds quickly, so merging onto the M2 or passing on the Hume is easy. It is also the easiest of the three to live with in the suburbs: lower than the Prado, lighter on its feet, and simpler to park at a shopping centre or a school gate.
GX is the entry trim, so expect a practical cabin rather than a luxurious one. The third row is best for children or short trips for adults; full-size passengers will want the middle row. With all seven seats up the boot is modest, so plan the luggage if the car will be full.
The Kluger is based in Merrylands. The minimum age is 20, and it is self-drive only.
Who it suits: families visiting Sydney, a week of school runs while your own car is off the road, grandparents and grandchildren on a day out. Who it does not suit: anyone who wants four-wheel drive for alpine roads in winter. For the snow, take the Prado.
Which Toyota should you choose?
The three cars overlap less than they seem to. Here is how we would steer the choice.
A family of seven
The Kluger for Sydney and day trips: it is easier to drive and to park, and the V6 handles a full car without effort. The Prado for longer trips, bad weather or anywhere near the snow, where four-wheel drive and that very long range start to matter. Both seat seven. For every option with a third row, see our 7 seater car hire page.
A couple or a small group on a road trip
The Prado. Two to four people with luggage in a car built for seven means room to spread out, and the diesel range means fewer stops. The HiLux works too if you are carrying bikes or bulky gear, but the rear seat is less generous and the ride is firmer.
Moving house or a big pick-up
The HiLux, without question. It is the only Toyota we have with a tray. Bring straps, cover the load if rain is forecast, and remember that the minimum age is 25.
A driver aged 20 to 24
The Prado or the Kluger, both 20+. Drivers from 20 to 24 are Young Drivers: Young Driver Cover is added automatically and the optional cover products are not available to them. The HiLux is 25+.
Flying in to Sydney
The Prado, collected in Mascot close to the airport. The Kluger and the HiLux are in Merrylands, so for those two, delivery to your hotel or family home is usually easier than collection if you arrive by air.

Occasions that suit a Toyota hire
These are not wedding cars or formal cars. They are cars for the practical side of life's bigger moments, and for trips where comfort, space and range beat speed.
- Family visits. Relatives are in town for a christening or a big birthday and everyone needs to move at once. The Kluger or the Prado keeps the group in one car.
- The snow. A winter week at Jindabyne, Thredbo or Perisher on sealed roads. The Prado is the pick; the HiLux suits two or three people with a tray full of gear.
- Moving house or a flat. The HiLux takes the bulky items; a second trip in the Kluger with the rear seats folded handles the boxes.
- A regional wedding or event. Getting the family to a vineyard in the Hunter or a venue in the Southern Highlands, with the suit bags and the gifts in the back.
- Your own car is off the road. Your SUV or ute is in for repairs and life does not stop. Weekly hires work well here, and our long-term car hire page explains longer bookings.

What they are not for: a school formal, a photoshoot that needs something glamorous, or a client meeting where the car is part of the impression. For those, browse the full fleet, where some cars can also be booked with a chauffeur.
Delivery, collection and chauffeur options
Every Toyota can be collected from its base or delivered to you.
- Mascot: the LandCruiser Prado. Close to Sydney Airport, the eastern suburbs and the south.
- Merrylands: the HiLux Rogue and the Kluger GX. Handy for Parramatta, the Hills and western Sydney; see our 4WD and SUV hire in Parramatta page.
Delivery is available anywhere in Sydney. It is priced by suburb and shown in the booking total before you pay, so there is no surprise at the door. Collect or delivered, the handover is the same: we walk around the car together and record its condition, fuel and odometer in a timestamped report with photos that you confirm.
All three Toyotas are self-drive only. If you want a car with a driver, some cars in the fleet can be booked chauffeured, quoted by the hour with the driver included. Our locations page lists every base.
How booking, the ID check and the bond work
Booking takes a few minutes online. Choose your dates, pick-up or delivery, and one of three booking types:
- Flexible: refundable in full if you cancel more than 72 hours before pick-up.
- Saver: cheaper, and non-refundable.
- Instant: confirms on the spot, and non-refundable.
Optional cover lowers your excess. The rate and every fee are shown on the car's page, and the total, the bond and the excess are on screen before you commit. You can pay the rental by card, cash or bank transfer, but a card is stored on every booking because the bond needs one.
After booking you get a link from a trusted third-party provider for the ID check. On your phone you photograph your licence and take a live selfie, and the document is checked against the Australian Government Document Verification Service. Complete it at least 24 hours before your trip, or before handover if you booked inside 24 hours. We never hand a car to an unverified driver, and we check the licence again in person at handover.
The bond is a pre-authorisation hold on your stored card, placed before handover. It is not a charge. It equals the damage excess for your booking, which depends on the tier and the cover you choose. Once the car is back, inspected and anything owing is settled, the hold is released, though some banks take a few days to clear it.
You need a full licence: provisional and learner licences cannot drive our cars. Overseas licences need an International Driving Permit or an accredited English translation unless already in English. One verified additional driver can be added. The detail is in our rental policy, and how it works walks through the whole process step by step.
Where to drive a Toyota from Sydney
These cars earn their keep on longer drives. Four sealed-road routes that suit them:
The Blue Mountains via the Great Western Highway
Up the M4 and through Glenbrook, Leura and Katoomba to Blackheath. With a full car, the Prado and the Kluger make the climb easy. Parking at Echo Point fills early on weekends, so arrive before 10am. Stay on sealed roads: several lookout access roads up there are gravel.
The Snowy Mountains
Down the Hume, the Federal Highway and the Monaro Highway through Cooma to Jindabyne, then on to Thredbo or Perisher. It is a long day, which is where the Prado's range pays off. Check the national park chain rules and road conditions before you leave, carry chains if they are required, and allow extra time for ice.
The Hunter Valley
The M1 north and the Hunter Expressway take you to Pokolbin in around two and a half hours. A seven-seater means the group travels together; just nominate a driver who is not tasting. Our guide to the Blue Mountains, Highlands and Hunter covers more stops.
The Southern Highlands
The Hume Motorway to Mittagong, Bowral and Berrima makes an easy family day trip, with good bakeries and wide main streets that suit a big SUV. Mind the speed cameras on the motorway.
Tolls on the M4, M5, M2 and the other motorways are the guest's, as are fines. School zones across NSW run on school days from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm, and they are strictly enforced.
Tips for driving a Toyota hire car
Fuel
The Prado and the HiLux are diesels: fill them with diesel, never petrol. The Kluger is petrol, and like every petrol car on our fleet it takes 98 RON premium unleaded. Return each car at the same fuel level you collected it at.
Size and parking
The Prado and the HiLux are big. Check the height limit before entering older car parks, use the reversing camera, and give yourself more room than usual on multi-storey ramps. The HiLux's tray also makes it long, so parallel parking in the inner west needs a generous gap.

Loading the tray
NSW law requires loads to be properly restrained, and fines for an unsecured load are the guest's. Use ratchet straps rather than rope, put heavy items against the front of the tray, and cover anything that could blow out. Do not overload the car; if in doubt, split the job into two trips.
Seven-seat logistics
Fold the third row before you get to the airport, not in the pick-up lane. If you need child seats, ask when you book, and make sure they are fitted correctly before you set off. With seven people aboard, luggage space shrinks fast, so soft bags beat hard cases.

Sealed roads only
Four-wheel drive does not change the rules. No beach driving, fire trails or 4WD tracks, even in the Prado and the HiLux. Only drivers named and verified on the agreement may drive, and rideshare work, track days and burnouts are not allowed.
Returning your Toyota
Bring the car back at the same fuel level. There is a 30-minute grace period on the return time, so a slow run on the M4 will not ruin your day. We inspect the car against the handover report, and once anything owing is settled the bond hold is released.

Book nowEnquire nowFrequently Asked Questions
Can I hire a Toyota in Sydney at 20?
Yes, for two of them. The LandCruiser Prado and the Kluger GX can be hired from 20. The HiLux Rogue 4x4 has a minimum age of 25. Drivers aged 20 to 24 are Young Drivers, so Young Driver Cover is added automatically and the optional cover products are not available to them.
Do you deliver Toyota hire cars?
Yes. Any of our Toyotas can be delivered anywhere in Sydney. Delivery is priced by suburb and shown in the booking total before you pay. You can also collect the Prado from Mascot, near the airport, or the HiLux and Kluger from Merrylands. The handover walk-around is the same either way.
Is there a bond on a Toyota hire?
Yes. The bond is a pre-authorisation hold on your stored card, placed before handover. It is not a charge. It equals the damage excess for your booking, which depends on the tier and the cover you choose, and it is shown before you commit. It is released after the car is returned, inspected and anything owing is settled.
Can I take the Prado or HiLux off-road or on the beach?
No. Every Drive Tribe car is limited to sealed public roads in NSW, and that includes our four-wheel drives. Beach driving, fire trails and 4WD tracks are not allowed. The four-wheel drive is still useful on wet country roads and on sealed alpine roads in winter.
Can I tow a trailer with the HiLux?
Do not plan your hire around towing. We offer the HiLux for what fits in its tray and cabin. If a trailer is part of your plan, call us on 0468 011 118 before you book and we will tell you honestly what is and is not possible.
Can I drive a Toyota hire car to the snow?
Yes, on sealed roads. The Prado is the best choice for Jindabyne, Thredbo or Perisher, with four-wheel drive and a very long range. Check the national park chain rules and road conditions before you leave, carry chains if they are required, and allow extra time for ice.
What fuel do your Toyotas take?
The LandCruiser Prado and the HiLux Rogue are turbo diesels, so they take diesel. The Kluger GX has a petrol V6 and, like every petrol car on our fleet, takes 98 RON premium unleaded. Return each car at the same fuel level you collected it at.
How many people does each Toyota seat?
The LandCruiser Prado and the Kluger GX both seat seven across three rows. The third row suits children or shorter trips for adults. The HiLux Rogue is a dual cab ute that seats five, with a tray behind the cabin for bulky items.
What licence do I need to hire a Toyota?
A full driver licence. Provisional and learner licences cannot drive our cars. Overseas licences need an International Driving Permit or an accredited English translation unless the licence is already in English. Every driver also completes an online ID check before the trip, and the licence is checked in person at handover.
Can I hire a Toyota with a driver?
Not these three. The Prado, HiLux Rogue and Kluger GX are self-drive only. Some other cars in our fleet can be booked with a chauffeur, quoted by the hour with the driver included.
