- Delivered across Sydney
- Bond and fees shown before you pay
- Never swapped to a lesser car
There is one thing worth clearing up before anything else on this page, because a lot of people searching for a four-wheel drive near a beach are assuming it. Beach driving is not permitted on a hire car - not ours, and generally not anyone's in this market. What these cars are genuinely useful for around here is a different and longer list.

Delivered to the eastern beaches
We bring it to you rather than making you get to a depot. Tell us the address and the dates.
The Thing Worth Saying First
If you have searched for a four-wheel drive to hire while living within walking distance of a beach, there is a reasonable chance you are picturing driving it on sand. So, plainly: you cannot.
Beach driving is not permitted on our cars, alongside genuine off-roading, water crossings and rock work. Permitted use is sealed roads and formed dirt roads. This is not us being precious about the fleet - salt and sand do genuine, expensive damage to a modern vehicle, and the cover simply does not extend to that use. It is also not unique to us; it is close to universal across prestige and mainstream hire alike.
If driving on sand is genuinely the plan, you want a specialist off-road hire operator who equips and insures vehicles for exactly that. Better to know now than at Stockton.
What They Are Genuinely Good For Around Here
Now the longer and more useful list, because there are real reasons the eastern suburbs book these constantly.

Carrying things. A full boot for a long weekend, boards on a rack, bikes, camping gear, a dog, a family's worth of luggage. The eastern beaches are dense and most people's own cars are small by necessity; an SUV for a few days solves a load problem that a hatchback cannot.
Getting out of town. The coast road south to Wollongong and beyond, north across the bridge to the Central Coast, inland to the Southern Highlands. These are the trips people book an SUV for around here, and the value is the boot and the comfort over distance rather than anything to do with terrain.
Weather. A wet coastal road with a heavy crosswind is a genuinely better experience in an all-wheel-drive car with mass and grip than in something small and light. This is an underrated reason and it comes up every winter.
The Parking Reality, Which Is the Real Constraint
More than anywhere else on this list, Bondi punishes a big car.
The streets are narrow, much of the parking is time-limited or permit-only, and the competition for a legal space within a reasonable walk of anywhere is genuine. A seven-seat Defender or X7 is a long vehicle and there are streets around here where you will simply not fit into the gaps that are available.
So the honest advice is to size the car to what it will actually be doing. If it is leaving town on Friday and coming back Sunday, take whatever suits the trip - it barely parks locally at all. If it is staying around Bondi for a week as your day-to-day car, a five-seat BMW X5 or Porsche Macan is far more practical than a seven-seater, and you will spend meaningfully less of your week looking for somewhere to leave it.
Boards, Bikes and Not Damaging Anything
Carrying gear is the single most common reason these get hired around the beaches, and it is worth doing properly.
Racks and roof boxes are arranged in advance rather than fitted on the day. That is not bureaucracy - it means the right setup is actually on the car when it arrives, rather than someone improvising with straps in a driveway. Tell us what you are carrying when you book: two boards, six bikes and a roof box are three different answers.
Boards loaded inside against bare interior trim is how damage happens, and it is the kind of damage that is both avoidable and visible at return. Wax on upholstery, fins against a door card, a wet bag left on leather for three days. A boot liner, an old towel, or a proper rack costs nothing and keeps the whole thing simple.
Sand, Salt and Coming Back Clean
Ordinary beach use is entirely expected. These are hire cars, they go to beaches, nobody is going to be surprised that there is sand in the footwell.
What matters is that the car comes back reasonably clean rather than requiring a professional detail. The gap between those two things is usually one towel over the load area and shaking a wetsuit out before it goes in the boot. Cleaning charges on beach-adjacent hires are almost always avoidable, and they are almost always about sand ground into carpet or salt water left to dry on upholstery rather than anything dramatic.
Capable Versus Shaped Like It
Since terrain is off the table around here, this matters less than on the western pages, but it is still worth knowing what you are choosing between.
The Defender and G-Wagon are the genuinely capable cars in the fleet - real ground clearance, proper all-wheel-drive systems, built around being somewhere difficult. Around Bondi that capability is mostly unused, and what you are actually getting from them is presence, load space and comfort.
The Range Rover Vogue, BMW X5 and X6, Porsche Macan, Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLS are road-biased prestige SUVs, which for the trips that start around here is exactly the right tool. They ride better on tarmac, they are quieter over distance, and several of them are considerably easier to park.
Winter, Wet Roads and the Underrated Reason to Book One
The eastern beaches book these hardest in summer, which is the obvious season and not the one where they earn the most.
A wet coast road in July with a heavy crosswind coming off the water is a materially different experience in an all-wheel-drive car with mass and grip than in something small and light. The Grand Pacific Drive south, the run over the bridge and up the coast, the Illawarra escarpment in sustained rain - these are the conditions where the extra money for an SUV is doing something real rather than cosmetic.
The same applies to a full car. Five adults and a boot of luggage changes how a small vehicle behaves in weather considerably more than most people expect, and it is exactly the load these trips involve.
There is a second winter argument that is less about safety and more about the trip being pleasant. A long drive in poor weather is genuinely tiring in a small car and genuinely not in a large quiet one. On a three-hour run each way, that difference is the whole character of the weekend. If you are choosing between hiring for a summer weekend and hiring for a winter one, the winter booking is often the one that justifies itself more clearly.
Delivery to the Eastern Beaches
Our depots are Parramatta and Mascot. Mascot is the near one, so delivery across Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Coogee and the surrounding streets is a short run rather than a cross-city expedition. Delivery is priced by distance and shown alongside the hire and the bond before you pay.
If you are leaving early on a Friday for a long weekend, it is worth asking about delivery the evening before. It costs the same and it means you are loading the car at your own pace rather than waiting for it on the morning you are trying to leave.
The Practical Points
The kilometre allowance sits on your booking before you pay, and if the trip is a long one tell us the itinerary so we can size it properly. The bond is stated before payment, held as a pre-authorisation rather than charged, and released when the car comes back as it left. Minimum driver age on this tier is 20 with a full licence, with Young Driver Cover at +25% of the daily hire under 25.
And dogs are fine, with a cover and a conversation first - a genuinely common request around here. Boot covered, dog restrained while moving, car back clean. Hair is the most common avoidable cleaning charge we raise.
If more than one of you will drive, name everyone at booking rather than sorting it out informally. An unnamed driver is not covered even briefly, and the youngest named driver sets whether Young Driver Cover applies to the hire.

If the Range Rover Vogue is booked
We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the lifestyle cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.
Range Rover Vogue
- 5 seats
- AWD
- Genuine prestige
- Min age 20
The eastern-suburbs default for good reason - it does the coast road and the long weekend away equally well, and looks right parked anywhere around here.
BMW X5
- 5 seats
- AWD
- Real boot
- Min age 20
Smaller than the seven-seaters and considerably easier to place in a Bondi side street, without giving up the boot space that makes an SUV worth hiring.
Carrying boards or bikes?
Racks and roof boxes are arranged in advance rather than fitted on the day. Tell us what you are taking when you book.
Guide rates, weekday winter pricing. Longer hires taper; the exact total for your dates is shown before you pay.
The bond held on your card equals the excess of the cover you choose. It is a pre-authorisation, released after return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I drive a hire 4WD on the beach?
No. Beach driving is not permitted, along with genuine off-roading, water crossings and rock work. This is the single most common assumption we correct on these bookings. The cars would physically manage it; the cover does not extend to it, and salt and sand do real damage to a vehicle regardless.
So what is a 4WD actually useful for around Bondi?
Carrying things and getting out of town. Boards, bikes, camping gear, a full boot for a long weekend up or down the coast, and all-wheel drive for a wet coast road. The capability that matters here is load and weather, not terrain.
Can I put surfboards on it?
Yes, with a rack arranged in advance rather than fitted on the day. Tell us what you are carrying when you book and we will sort the right setup. Boards inside on a bare roof or against interior trim is how damage happens, so it is worth doing properly.
What about sand and salt in the car?
Ordinary beach use is expected and fine - it is a hire car, not a museum piece. What we ask is that it comes back reasonably clean. A boot liner or a towel over the load area costs nothing and is the difference between normal wear and a cleaning charge.
Is parking one of these realistic in Bondi?
It is the real constraint, more than anywhere else on this list. The streets are narrow, the parking is contested, and a long seven-seater is genuinely harder to place than a five-seat X5 or Macan. If the car is staying parked locally rather than leaving town, size down.
Do you deliver to the eastern suburbs?
Yes. Our depots are Parramatta and Mascot, and Mascot is the closer of the two, so delivery to Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Tamarama and the surrounding streets is straightforward. Delivery is priced by distance and shown before you pay.
