- Delivered across Sydney
- Bond and fees shown before you pay
- Never swapped to a lesser car
Parramatta is where our cars actually live, which makes it the cheapest and simplest place in Sydney to start a long trip in one. No delivery fee if you collect, no crossing the city before you have properly begun, and the M4 is minutes away rather than an hour of stop-start to reach.

Collect from Parramatta and skip the delivery fee
The cars are here. Collecting in person is the cheapest way to hire one and the fastest way to get on the M4.
The Advantage of Starting Where the Cars Are
Our depot is in Parramatta. For a long trip that is worth more than it sounds.
Collecting in person costs nothing extra, where delivery anywhere else in Sydney is priced by distance. The M4 is minutes away rather than an hour of stop-start through the inner west. And because the cars are physically here, an early collection - picking up the evening before so you can leave at first light - is straightforward rather than a special arrangement involving a driver crossing the city.
If you are starting from anywhere in the west or northwest, this is simply the most efficient way to begin. Westmead, Harris Park, North Parramatta, Rydalmere, Merrylands: you are closer to the fleet than most of Sydney is to a rental counter.
What These Cars Are Allowed to Do
The boundary that matters, stated plainly because almost nobody in this market does.

Permitted use is sealed roads and formed dirt roads. That covers a great deal - most national park access roads, rural property driveways, maintained gravel, the unsealed few kilometres between the highway and wherever you are staying. For the vast majority of trips people actually take out of Parramatta, you will never approach this limit.
What is not permitted is genuine off-roading, beach driving, water crossings and rock work. The Defender would manage considerably more than the terms allow, and the honest framing is that the limit here is the cover rather than the vehicle. If your trip genuinely involves sand, creek crossings or picking a line over rocks, you want a specialist off-road hire operator, not a prestige fleet - and that is true whoever you ask.
West Is the Direction These Get Booked For
The trips that start here have a pattern. The Blue Mountains, an hour up the M4 and then climbing. The Central West beyond them - Bathurst, Orange, Mudgee - where the last stretch to a property or a cellar door is frequently gravel. The Hunter, north. Occasionally further, into rural New South Wales proper, which is where interstate approval and a properly sized kilometre allowance start to matter.
Two things follow from that pattern. Distances are real, so the kilometre allowance is worth getting right at booking rather than discovering at the end. And the last kilometre is often unsealed, which is exactly the situation that makes a genuinely capable car worth the hire rather than a nice-looking one.
Capable Versus Merely Shaped Like It
The fleet contains both, and the difference is worth understanding before you choose.
The Land Rover Defender is the genuinely capable one: 221kW, all-wheel drive, seven seats, real ground clearance, and a body designed around being somewhere awkward. On a corrugated dirt road with a few washouts it is entirely unbothered. The Mercedes G-Wagon shares that pedigree.
The Audi Q7, BMW X5 and X7, Range Rover Velar, Porsche Macan and Mercedes GLS are road-biased prestige SUVs. All-wheel drive, excellent in rain, perfectly happy on maintained gravel, and not built to be dragged down a rutted track. Their ground clearance reflects that.
Choose on the last kilometre of your trip rather than the first. If it is sealed the whole way, the Q7 is comfortable, seven-seat and cheaper. If it is not, take the Defender.
Loading It Properly
The most common planning mistake on these bookings, and the easiest to avoid.
A seven-seat SUV seats seven. It does not simultaneously carry seven people's luggage. With the third row up, the boot shrinks to a few soft bags in essentially every seven-seater made. The third row itself is comfortable for children and teenagers over a long trip, and for adults over a short one.
Seven adults going away for a week is therefore a conversation before booking rather than a discovery in the driveway. Sometimes the answer is a roof box, arranged in advance rather than fitted on the day. Sometimes it is the eight-seat Kia Carnival, which nobody books for the look of it and everybody books again, because sliding doors and a genuinely enormous boot solve the real problem. Sometimes it is two cars, which we will price together.
Weather on the Way West
The Blue Mountains do weather properly. Frost above Blackheath, occasional snow, fog that arrives without discussion, and sustained rain that turns a gravel driveway greasy in a couple of hours.
All-wheel drive, ground clearance and proper tyre contact turn all of that from an event into a non-event. It is the most practically valuable reason to take an SUV on a western trip rather than a sedan, and worth considerably more than anything on the interior features list.
Fuel Over Distance
On a long western trip fuel is a real line in the budget rather than a rounding error, and the cars differ more than people expect.
The G-Wagon is by some distance the thirstiest thing in this part of the fleet - a 430kW petrol car shaped like a brick, and physics does not negotiate. The Defender's diesel is markedly more economical over distance, which is part of why it is our usual recommendation for genuinely long trips even though it is not the cheapest hire in the group. If your itinerary is big, ask and we will tell you honestly which car costs less to run over that distance.
Hiring One Before You Buy One
A genuinely common reason people book these out of Parramatta, and one worth naming because it is a better use of a hire than most.
Large SUVs are expensive, they hold their value unevenly, and almost nobody gets a real sense of one from a twenty-minute dealer test drive around a suburb. A weekend with the car doing what you would actually do with it - a full family in it, the boot loaded, a long motorway run, parking it at your own house, reversing it into your own garage - tells you more than any amount of showroom time.
The things people discover on those weekends are consistently practical rather than dynamic. Whether the third row is genuinely usable for their children or merely present. Whether it fits in their garage with the door shut. Whether the boot takes the pram. Whether they can see out of it well enough to be comfortable in a car park. Whether the fuel consumption over a real week is something they want to live with.
None of those are answered by a spec sheet, and all of them are answered by two days. If that is why you are booking, tell us - we will point you at the closest thing in the fleet to the specification you are actually considering, and we will be honest when the car you are thinking about buying is not the one you should be hiring to evaluate it.
The Practical Points Worth Raising Early
The kilometre allowance sits on your booking before you pay - tell us the itinerary and we will size it to the trip instead of leaving you to find an overage later. Interstate needs prior written approval noted on the booking. Roof boxes and bike racks are arranged beforehand rather than fitted on the day.
Dogs are fine with a cover and a conversation first. The Defender's flat load bay suits it particularly well. What we ask is that the boot is covered, the dog is restrained while moving, and the car comes back clean - hair is the single most common reason a cleaning charge gets raised, and it is entirely avoidable.
The bond is stated on your booking before you pay, held as a pre-authorisation rather than charged, and released once the car is back in the condition it left in. The minimum driver age on this tier is 20 with a full licence, and Young Driver Cover (+25% of the daily hire) applies under 25.
If more than one person will drive on the trip, name them all at booking. An unnamed driver is not covered even for a short stretch, and on a long western run that is exactly the moment someone offers to take over. Each named driver has to meet the age and licence requirement independently, so it is worth checking before the day rather than assuming.

If the Land Rover Defender 110 is booked
We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the lifestyle cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.
Land Rover Defender 110
- 221kW
- AWD
- 7 seats
- High clearance
The one we approve for interstate and long rural trips most often, and the one that does not mind a corrugated dirt road at the end of the drive.
Audi Q7
- 7 seats
- Quattro AWD
- Min age 20
- $400/day
The accessible entry into seven-seat prestige. All-wheel drive and a real boot, at the lower end of what this tier costs.
Tell us the trip
Distance sets the kilometre allowance and sometimes the car. Give us the itinerary and we will match it rather than guess.
Guide rates, weekday winter pricing. Longer hires taper; the exact total for your dates is shown before you pay.
The bond held on your card equals the excess of the cover you choose. It is a pre-authorisation, released after return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I actually take a hired 4WD?
Sealed roads and formed dirt roads, which covers most national park access roads and rural properties. Genuine off-roading, beach driving, water crossings and rock work are not permitted. The Defender would handle far more than that; the cover is what sets the limit, not the car.
Is it cheaper to collect from Parramatta than have it delivered?
Yes. Delivery is priced by distance and collecting in person avoids it entirely. If you are anywhere in Sydney's west or northwest - Westmead, Harris Park, North Parramatta, Rydalmere - collecting is usually both cheaper and faster than waiting for a delivery window.
How far is it to the Blue Mountains from here?
Parramatta is roughly an hour from Katoomba on a clear run, and the M4 is minutes from the depot. It is the shortest practical start in Sydney for anything west, which is why so many of the long-trip bookings on these cars start here rather than in the city.
Can I take it interstate?
With prior written approval noted on the booking, so the kilometre allowance and roadside cover are correct for the distance. The Defender and the Range Rover are the two we approve for interstate most often.
What is the minimum driver age?
20 with a full unrestricted licence for this tier, rather than the 25 that applies to our Exotic and Supercar cars. Drivers under 25 also carry Young Driver Cover at +25% of the daily hire, shown with the hire price before you pay.
Can I collect early or return late?
Usually, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. Because these cars go on long trips, an early collection the evening before is a common arrangement so you can leave at dawn without a detour. Tell us the plan when you book.
