- Multi-car bookings priced together
- Delivered to the getting-ready address
- Collected the next morning
The traditional wedding car industry prices by the car, by the hour, with a three-hour minimum and a surcharge if the day runs long. Self-drive hire prices by the car, by the day. For one car those two models land in roughly the same place. For three cars they do not land anywhere near each other, and that is the entire reason building your own fleet is worth considering.

Build your own wedding fleet
Tell us the date and how many cars you need. We will come back with what is available across the whole fleet, not one car at a time.
The Two Pricing Models, Side by Side
These are genuinely different products and it is worth understanding why before
comparing quotes.
Chauffeured: per car, per hour, with a minimum
A traditional wedding car company sells you a vehicle and a driver for a block of time,
usually with a three-hour minimum. The driver is the expensive part, and the meter is
effectively running whether the car is moving or parked outside a church for forty
minutes. Overtime is charged in increments and it is where wedding transport budgets
most often overrun, because ceremonies run late and photographers always want one more
location.
Self-drive: per car, per day
You hire the vehicle for the day and drive it yourself. There is no hourly meter and
no overtime, because the day is the unit. If the ceremony runs forty minutes late,
nothing happens to the price. If the photographer wants to add a stop at the headland on
the way to the reception, nothing happens to the price.
Where the models diverge
With one car, an afternoon of chauffeured hire and a day of self-drive are broadly
comparable. With three cars, the chauffeured model multiplies three drivers by the hours,
while the self-drive model multiplies three day rates. The gap widens with every extra
car and every extra hour.
Where Self-Drive Genuinely Wins
When you need more than one car
This is the clearest case. Three matched cars for the day, driven by three people you
already trust, is a fundamentally different cost structure from three chauffeurs. It is
also the only realistic way most couples get a genuinely matched convoy rather than
whatever three vehicles one company happens to have free.

When the day is long
Weddings run long. Getting ready starts early, photographs take longer than planned,
and the gap between ceremony and reception is rarely as tight as the run sheet suggests.
A day rate absorbs all of that. An hourly rate does not.
When the locations are spread out
A ceremony in the eastern suburbs, photographs at a headland, and a reception in the
inner west is a lot of driving. Under an hourly model that is billable time. Under a day
rate it is just the day.
When you want a specific car
Chauffeur fleets are built around what works with a driver: dark sedans, stretched
vehicles, classics. If you want a G-Wagon, a Range Rover Sport or something with genuine
presence, the self-drive market has far more of it.
Where Chauffeured Genuinely Wins
Being honest about this matters more than selling you something.
When nobody should be driving
If the wedding party is drinking from the morning, or nobody in the group is a calm
driver, or the whole point is that nobody has a job on the day, hire a chauffeur. That is
a real and sensible reason and no day rate fixes it.
When you want to arrive without parking
A chauffeur drops you at the door and takes the car away. Self-drive means somebody has
to park it, and at a city venue on a Saturday that is a genuine consideration rather than
a detail.
When the vehicle is the ceremony
Vintage and classic cars are almost always a chauffeured product, and if a 1962 Bentley
is the vision then this article is not about your wedding.
The Costs People Forget to Include
Whichever way you go, the quoted figure is not the whole figure.
The security bond
Self-drive carries a refundable bond held against the card at pickup and released after
the vehicle is returned and inspected. It is not a cost, but it is money that needs to be
available on the day, and on a prestige vehicle it is a meaningful number. The exact
figure is shown before you confirm.
Fuel
Vehicles come with a fuel position recorded at handover and are returned the same way.
On a wedding day the actual distance driven is usually modest, so this is a smaller number
than people expect, but it is yours to pay.
Delivery
Having the cars brought to the getting-ready address rather than collected from a depot
carries a fee, shown before you pay. On a wedding morning it is almost always worth it,
because nobody wants to send two people across Sydney to collect cars at eight in the
morning.
Parking at the venue
Under self-drive this is your problem rather than the chauffeur's. Ask the venue early.
Many have space set aside for wedding vehicles and will hold it if asked, and a few
genuinely have nowhere.
Overtime, or the absence of it
This is the line that most often decides the comparison. Ask any chauffeured quote what
happens at hour four and what the increment is. Then compare that against a day rate where
the question does not arise.
How to Compare Two Quotes Properly
Most couples compare a headline number against a headline number and get it wrong,
because the two numbers describe different things.
Work out the real duration first, from the first pickup to the last drop, honestly
rather than optimistically. Then price the chauffeured option across that full duration
including the overtime increments, for every car you need. Then price the self-drive
option as day rates for the same number of cars, plus delivery, plus fuel. Only then are
you comparing like with like.
The number that usually surprises people is not the base rate. It is what happens when
a three-car booking runs ninety minutes over.
Five Questions to Ask Any Wedding Car Quote
Whichever way you go, these five answers turn a headline number into a real one. Ask
them of us and of anyone else you are considering.
What is the minimum booking, and what is the overtime increment?
A three-hour minimum with fifteen-minute overtime increments behaves very differently
from one with hourly increments. On a day that runs over, this single answer can move the
final figure more than the base rate did.
Is the quote per car or for the package?
Multi-car quotes are sometimes presented as a package and sometimes as a per-car figure
that reads like one. Confirm which, in writing.
What happens if the ceremony runs late?
Under a day rate, nothing. Under an hourly model, get the answer specifically rather
than generally, because being told they are flexible is not a price.
Is travel between locations charged?
Some chauffeured quotes price the ceremony and the reception and treat the photograph
locations in between as extra. Ask directly.
What is refundable, and when?
Deposits, cancellation windows and the security bond are three separate things.
Understand all three before you commit, particularly the cancellation window, because
wedding dates move more often than anyone plans for.
A Realistic Middle Path
You do not have to choose one model for the whole day. A common and sensible
arrangement is a chauffeur for the couple's car only, so neither of them has a job, with
self-drive vehicles for the bridal party and family driven by people who are not drinking.
You get the best of both and the cost sits well below a fully chauffeured convoy.
If that is the shape you want, tell us how many self-drive cars you need and we will
work around whatever chauffeur arrangement you have made separately.

If the wedding fleet is booked
We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the luxury cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.
Three matched Range Rover Sports
- 3 cars
- 5+5+7 seats
- AWD
- One silhouette
We run three. Book all three and the convoy reads as one deliberate set rather than whatever was available, which is the single biggest difference between good wedding photos and average ones.
One hero car plus a people mover
- 2 cars
- 5 + 8 seats
- Lowest cost
- Covers everyone
A G-Wagon or Range Rover for the couple, the Kia Carnival GT-Line for the other eight. The cheapest arrangement that still gets everybody there together and gives you one car worth photographing.
Not sure how many cars?
Tell us the size of the bridal party and the venues. We will work out the smallest fleet that actually covers it.
Guide rates, weekday winter pricing. Longer hires taper; the exact total for your dates is shown before you pay.
The bond held on your card equals the excess of the cover you choose. It is a pre-authorisation, released after return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer a discount for booking multiple cars?
Multi-car bookings are what our fleet is built for, so tell us how many you need and the date, and we will price the whole fleet together rather than as separate bookings. It is also the only way to guarantee the cars actually match, because we are holding them as a set rather than one at a time.
How much deposit is needed to hold three cars?
Deposit and cancellation terms are confirmed in writing before you commit. Ask specifically about the cancellation window, because wedding dates move more often than couples expect and it is the term that matters most if yours does.
Can we hire the cars for two days?
Yes, and for a wedding it is often the better answer. Taking delivery the afternoon before removes the tightest risk from the morning and gives whoever is driving time with the car. A second day usually costs far less than the first.
Is self-drive cheaper than chauffeured wedding cars?
For one car over a short window, the two are broadly comparable. Once you need two or three cars, or the day runs long, the models diverge sharply because chauffeured hire multiplies drivers by hours while self-drive multiplies day rates.
What happens if the wedding runs late?
Nothing happens to the price. The day is the unit, so a ceremony that starts forty minutes late or a photographer who adds a location costs you nothing extra. That is usually the single biggest difference against an hourly chauffeured quote.
What costs am I likely to forget?
The refundable security bond held at pickup, fuel, the delivery fee if you want the cars brought to you, and parking at the venue. None are large individually, but they are the ones that get missed when comparing a headline rate.
Can I mix chauffeured and self-drive?
Yes, and it is a sensible arrangement. A chauffeur for the couple's car so neither of them has a job, self-drive for the bridal party and family. It costs well below a fully chauffeured convoy. Tell us how many self-drive cars you need.
When should I not choose self-drive?
If the wedding party is drinking from the morning, if nobody in the group is a calm driver, or if parking at the venue is genuinely impossible. Those are real reasons and no day rate solves them.
How far ahead should I book a multi-car wedding fleet?
As far ahead as you can. We run a finite fleet and Saturdays in the wedding season book out first. A three-car matched booking has fewer possible dates than a single-car one, so it is the one to lock in early.
