  • Bond and fees shown before you pay
  • Never swapped to a lesser car

There are three Teslas you can actually hire from us in Sydney, and only one of them has a 0-100 time starting with a 3. The 2020 Model 3 Performance hits 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds from its 370 kW dual-motor setup, the 2025 Model Y RWD takes 5.9 seconds, and the 2017 Model X P100D is quicker than both at 3.1 seconds but comes with a catch: a professional driver, not you, holds the wheel. This page is the honest map of what is bookable, what each car is genuinely good at, and which one suits your Sydney week.

What Tesla rental in Sydney actually looks like right now

Search for Tesla rental Sydney and you will find a lot of noise: peer-to-peer listings with unclear insurance, airport counters that hand you a key and a shrug, and stock photos of cars that are not in the country. We keep it simple. We run three Teslas out of western Sydney, all self-drive except one, all delivered anywhere in the Sydney metro area or collected from their base suburb.

Two of them are self-drive. One is chauffeur-only. That single distinction matters more than any spec sheet, because it decides whether you are the person pressing the accelerator or the person in the back seat watching the traffic on the Anzac Bridge.

If you want the full brand picture first, start at our Tesla hire Sydney hub and work backwards from there.

The three Teslas in the Drive Tribe fleet

2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance: the one enthusiasts ask for

The Model 3 Performance is the car people email us about at 11pm. Dual-motor all-wheel drive, 370 kW, 660 Nm, 0-100 in 3.3 seconds, 567 km of range and Track Mode built in. It lives at Parramatta, which means it is already on the right side of the city for a run out to the Blue Mountains or a lap of the M4 before the traffic builds.

Minimum driver age is 20, the lowest of anything we run. That is deliberate. It is a serious performance car, but it is also the most accessible fast Tesla in Sydney, and we would rather a 21-year-old with a clean record drive it properly than see it sit idle.

When I drove it, the thing that stayed with me was not the launch. It was the Spit Bridge climb, where the dual-motor setup just pulls without any drama or noise, and you realise you are doing a number you would not want to explain to a highway patrol officer. The car is faster than it feels, which is the whole point of an EV with this much torque.

2025 Tesla Model Y RWD: the sensible one, and we mean that as praise

The Model Y RWD is the newest car in the fleet and the one most families book. RWD, 220 kW, 420 Nm, 0-100 in 5.9 seconds, 466 km of range, five seats, silver, based at Merrylands. Minimum driver age is 25.

It is not slow. It is just honest about what it is: a tall, quiet, efficient electric SUV that swallows a week of Sydney life without complaint. School runs, airport transfers, a Costco trip that somehow becomes three Costco trips. It does all of it on one charge more often than you would expect.

We have a full breakdown in our 2025 Tesla Model Y RWD review if you want the long version.

2017 Tesla Model X P100D: chauffeur only, and that is not negotiable

The Model X P100D is the odd one out. It is the fastest car in the fleet on paper, 568 kW, 967 Nm, 0-100 in 3.1 seconds, all-wheel drive, Ludicrous mode, falcon-wing rear doors, blue, seven seats, based at Merrylands. It is also chauffeur-only. A Drive Tribe driver is always at the wheel. There is no self-drive option and no minimum driver age, because you are a passenger, not a driver.

That is not a limitation, it is the product. If you want to arrive at a wedding in Double Bay or a corporate dinner in the CBD in a seven-seat electric SUV with doors that open upward, and you want to spend the trip in the back seat rather than watching the road, this is the car. The falcon-wing doors are the detail everyone remembers, and they still stop conversations in a car park.

Every model side by side

Here is the comparison we send people who ask which one to book. Every number below is a real fleet spec, not a manufacturer claim pulled from a press release.

Self-drive versus chauffeur: which one do you actually want?

This is the decision that matters more than range or power. Ask yourself one question: do you want to drive, or do you want to be driven?

  • Self-drive means you collect or we deliver, you hold the key, and you are responsible for the car. That is the Model 3 Performance and the Model Y RWD.
  • Chauffeur means a Drive Tribe driver handles everything. That is the Model X P100D, always, with no exceptions.

Self-drive suits a weekend away, a track day, a long drive up the coast, or anyone who genuinely enjoys being behind the wheel of an EV. Chauffeur suits events, airport runs where you want to work in the back, weddings, and anyone who would rather not deal with Sydney parking at the end of a long day.

If you are weighing the Model 3 Performance against a German performance sedan, we wrote that comparison up in Model 3 Performance vs Mercedes-AMG C63 S: Silent Speed or V8 Theatre. Short version: one of them makes a noise about it, the other just leaves.

Where each car lives, and how delivery works

Base suburbs matter because they decide how quickly we can get a car to you.

  • Model 3 Performance: based at Parramatta. Good for the west, the Hills, and anyone heading out along the Great Western Highway.
  • Model Y RWD: based at Merrylands. Central for the south-west, the inner west and the M4 corridor.
  • Model X P100D: based at Merrylands, chauffeur-driven, so pickup is not really a thing, we come to you.

We deliver anywhere in Sydney, or you can collect from the car's base suburb. Delivery means the car arrives where you are, charged and ready, and you do not spend your first hour on a train to Merrylands. For a wedding, a shoot, or a weekend where every hour counts, delivery is usually the right call.

Charging a rented Tesla in Sydney without the guesswork

Every car in the fleet charges on the Tesla Supercharger network, which is the reason a Tesla rental in Sydney is easier than renting almost any other EV. You do not need to plan around third-party chargers or carry an app for six different networks. You plug in, the car handles it, you unplug and go.

For a proper breakdown of costs, home plugs and what to expect on a longer trip, read Charging a Rented Tesla in Sydney: Superchargers, Home Plugs and What It Costs. It covers the questions we get asked most, including what happens if you arrive home with a low battery and no wallbox.

If your plan involves leaving the city, our Supercharger map for Sydney day trips shows where the stops fall on the routes people actually drive: the Hunter, the Southern Highlands, the South Coast and the Blue Mountains.

What it is like to live with a Tesla for a week in Sydney

I have run all three cars on ordinary Sydney weeks, not just launch events. The pattern is consistent.

The Model 3 Performance is the car you find excuses to drive. A coffee run becomes a run to somewhere 40 minutes away. You take the long way home. The range is genuinely usable, 567 km on paper, and in real Sydney conditions you stop thinking about it after day one.

The Model Y RWD is the car you forget you are driving, in the best way. It is quiet, the seating position is high enough to see over traffic on Parramatta Road, and 466 km of range means most people charge once a week, not once a day.

The Model X P100D is a different experience entirely, because you are not driving it. Sitting in the back while a professional handles the lane changes on the M4 is a strange kind of luxury, and the falcon-wing doors make every arrival an event. It is not the car for a solo weekend away. It is the car for the night you want to be seen arriving.

Which Tesla should you book?

If you want the fastest, most engaging drive and you are at least 20, book the Model 3 Performance. If you need space, five seats and the newest car in the fleet, and you are at least 25, book the Model Y RWD. If you want to be driven, want seven seats, and want the doors to do the talking, book the Model X P100D with a chauffeur.

If you are still comparing the whole Tesla range, including the models we do not run, our Every Tesla Model Compared for Renters: 3, Y, Y L, X and S walks through the full lineup and explains where each one fits.

Every rate, bond and fee is shown on the car's page and in your booking total before you pay. No surprises at the counter, no vague "from" pricing that doubles at checkout.

What about the Model Y L?

The Model Y L is the six-seat, long-wheelbase version of the Model Y. It is a real model, and it is the one people ask about most often when they want more seats than a standard Model Y but do not want the size of a Model X. It is not in our fleet yet. We cannot book it, we cannot quote it, and we will not pretend otherwise.

If it arrives in Sydney and we add it, this page will say so. Until then, treat any listing that offers you one as something to check carefully. If you want to be told when it lands, ask us through the hub and we will keep you on the list.

Booking a Tesla rental in Sydney: the short version

  1. Pick the car that matches how you actually plan to use it, not the one with the biggest number on the spec sheet.
  2. Check the minimum driver age: 20 for the Model 3 Performance, 25 for the Model Y RWD. The Model X has no age rule because it is chauffeur-driven.
  3. Choose delivery anywhere in Sydney, or collection from Parramatta or Merrylands depending on the car.
  4. Book through the car's page, where the rate, bond and every fee are shown before you pay.

That is the whole process. No queues, no upsell desk, no mystery charges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Tesla models can I actually hire in Sydney?

We run three: the 2020 Model 3 Performance, the 2025 Model Y RWD and the 2017 Model X P100D. The first two are self-drive, the Model X is chauffeur-only. The Model Y L is not in our fleet yet, so we cannot book it.

What is the minimum age to hire a Tesla in Sydney?

It depends on the car. The Model 3 Performance is available from age 20, and the Model Y RWD from age 25. The Model X P100D has no minimum driver age because a professional Drive Tribe driver is always at the wheel.

Can I drive the Model X P100D myself?

No. The Model X P100D is chauffeur-only, always. A Drive Tribe driver handles the car and you travel as a passenger. That is what makes it the right choice for weddings, events and airport runs where you want to arrive without parking stress.

Do you deliver the car, or do I collect it?

Both. We deliver anywhere in the Sydney metro area, or you can collect from the car's base suburb. The Model 3 Performance is based at Parramatta, and the Model Y RWD and Model X P100D are based at Merrylands.

How do I charge a rented Tesla in Sydney?

All three cars use the Tesla Supercharger network, so you do not need to juggle third-party charging apps. Plug in, let the car handle it, unplug and drive. We cover home plugs and longer trips in our charging guide for renters.

Is the Model Y L available to hire?

Not yet. The Model Y L is the six-seat long-wheelbase Model Y, and it is a real model, but it is not in our fleet. We cannot book or quote it. If it joins the fleet, this page will say so.
