Most large SUVs are honest about being one thing. The Prado is the rare one that genuinely isn't. It will sit in a school queue on a Tuesday and cross the Snowy Mountains on a Friday without a single compromise being obvious in either direction. That is why it has been Australia's default family 4WD for three decades, and why it is the vehicle people book when the trip has more than one kind of day in it.

Check Prado availability
Seven seats, 3.5t towing and over 1,000km of range. Delivered across Sydney.
The 250 Series moved onto the same ladder-frame platform as the LandCruiser 300, which is a bigger deal than the spec sheet makes it sound. It brought a stiffer body, a properly modern cabin, and a 48V mild-hybrid system bolted to the long-serving 2.8-litre turbo-diesel. The result drives tighter than any Prado before it while keeping the thing everyone actually books it for: it will not let you down 400km from the nearest town.

What It's Actually Good For
The long haul without a fuel stop
The dual-tank setup is the quiet hero. A run to Byron, Melbourne or Broken Hill happens on one fill, which changes the character of a road trip more than any horsepower figure. You stop when you want to stop, not when the gauge says so.

Towing a boat, a van or a float
3,500kg braked is the full ticket. Trailer sway control and integrated reverse guidance take most of the anxiety out of backing a boat down a ramp at Pittwater, or hitching a caravan you have never towed before. Confirm your tow ball and wiring requirements with us at booking so the vehicle arrives ready.
Beach and bush access
Dual-range low, a centre diff lock and 700mm of wading make Stockton, the Royal National Park fire trails and the tracks behind Jindabyne genuinely accessible rather than theoretically accessible. Off-road use is subject to your rental terms: beach and unsealed-road permissions are granted per booking, not by default.
Ski season
The Prado is arguably the most sensible vehicle in Australia for a Snowy run. Diesel torque on the climb, all-terrain capability for the last unploughed kilometre, and room for seven people plus gear. Chains still apply in the declared area, and we supply them on request.
The seven-seat weekend
Third row up, it seats seven. Third row folded, it swallows a genuine family load. It is the practical answer for a group heading to the Hunter for a weekend where a sedan would need two cars.
Inside
The 250 Series cabin is where the biggest generational leap happened. The old Prado's interior was durable and forgettable. This one is neither.
The driving position is upright and commanding with excellent forward visibility, which is the single most underrated feature of a big 4WD in city traffic. The dash is laid out horizontally with physical climate controls and proper knobs for the things you adjust while moving, a decision that ages far better than a full touchscreen.
The central touchscreen runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with a wireless charging pad and multiple USB-C outlets front and rear. Higher grades add a 14-inch display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, and a JBL audio system.
Second-row space is generous with reclining seatbacks and its own climate zone. The third row is best understood as genuinely usable for teenagers and adults on shorter runs rather than a full-size bench, which is standard for the class. With all three rows up, luggage space is modest. Plan on a roof platform or a towed box if seven people are travelling with seven people's worth of bags.
Storage is the part you notice on day three: a deep centre console, big door bins, and enough cupholders that nobody argues.

If the Prado is booked
We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the lifestyle cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.

Towing or heading off-road?
Both need approval on the booking beforehand. Tell us the plan and we will set it up.
Guide rates, weekday winter pricing. Longer hires taper; the exact total for your dates is shown before you pay.
The bond held on your card equals the excess of the cover you choose. It is a pre-authorisation, released after return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I collect the Prado?
You have three options. Collect from our Mascot depot, the closest point to Sydney Airport and the simplest choice if you are flying in. Collect from our Parramatta depot if you are coming from the west or the Blue Mountains side. Or have it delivered: our host network covers most of Sydney, including Bankstown, and delivery to your address is usually the fastest of the three because it removes the trip to a depot entirely.
Do you deliver to my suburb?
We deliver across the Sydney metro area through our host network. Bankstown, Mascot and Parramatta are our strongest coverage points, with same-day availability common. Enter your address at checkout and the system will confirm delivery availability and any fee before you pay.
Can I take it off-road or on the beach?
Off-road and beach driving must be approved on your booking before you collect the vehicle. It is not permitted by default. Tell us the tracks or beaches you are planning and we will confirm in writing.
Can I tow with it?
Yes, up to 3,500kg braked. Let us know at booking so the correct tow ball and wiring are fitted and the trailer is noted on your agreement.
What licence do I need?
A full Australian or recognised overseas licence, held for the required minimum period. Provisional licences are not accepted on this vehicle. International customers should carry their home licence plus an International Driving Permit if the licence is not in English.
Is there a security bond?
Yes. A refundable security hold is placed on your card at pickup and released after the vehicle is returned and inspected. The exact amount is shown before you confirm your booking.
Can I take it interstate?
Yes, with prior approval. Interstate travel needs to be noted on your booking so we can adjust the kilometre allowance and roadside cover appropriately.
Is it good in snow?
It is one of the best vehicles we rent for the Snowy Mountains. Chains are still legally required in the declared chain-fitment area during the season, and we supply and demonstrate them on request.
