- Delivered across Sydney
- Bond and fees shown before you pay
- Never swapped to a lesser car
Most prestige hire in Sydney tells anyone under 25 to come back in a few years. That is true of our exotics and it is not true of these. The Performance cars - the Mustang, the Camaro, the Taycan - have a minimum driver age of 20 (the M3s are the exception, at 25), and for a lot of people reading this that single fact is the whole article.

The Age Rule, Stated Plainly
Almost every prestige hire operator in Sydney has a minimum driver age of 25, and most people under that age have stopped asking as a result.
Ours is 25 on the Exotic and Supercar tiers. It is 20 on the Performance tier, with a full licence required.
That covers the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS and the Porsche Taycan Turbo. It does not cover the Lamborghini, the McLaren, the Ferrari or the AMG GT, and it does not cover the M3 Competition G80 or the G80 xDrive, which sit in the Exotic tier.
Two conditions attach and both are firm. The licence has to be a full licence - a provisional licence is not eligible at any age. And any driver under 25 pays Young Driver Cover at +25% of the daily hire, which is mandatory rather than optional.
That is the complete picture. There is no version where a P-plater gets an M3, and the M3 itself needs a driver of 25; a 21-year-old on a full licence is not turned away from the Mustang, the Camaro or the Taycan.
What It Actually Costs at 22
Worth doing the arithmetic honestly rather than leaving it vague, because the Young Driver Cover is a real number rather than a token.

The hire is the hire. On top of that, a driver under 25 adds +25% of the daily hire. On a single Saturday that is $100. On a three-day weekend it is $300. It is shown with everything else before you pay rather than appearing at handover.
The bond is a hold on a card rather than a charge, and it is released rather than spent. The damage excess is $5,000, which is the maximum a damage claim can reach.
The practical implication for a younger hirer is that the daily cover makes short hires proportionally more expensive than long ones, so a single day is the efficient shape unless you genuinely need the car for longer.
Splitting It Is What Makes It Affordable
The M3 Competition F80 has four doors and five seats. That is not incidental - it is the reason it is the most-booked car in this tier by people in their early twenties.
A performance car split four ways is a fundamentally different number from one person hiring alone, and the M3 is the only car here that genuinely carries four adults and their things.
The mechanics: one booking, one payment method, and the group settles up between themselves. We cannot split a hire across four cards. The person who books does not have to be the person who drives, but whoever drives has to be named on the booking and has to meet the age and licence rules themselves.
The Mustang and the Camaro are technically four-seaters and realistically two-plus-two. The Taycan seats four properly.
Honest Advice for a First Time in Something This Fast
A lot of people hiring in this tier are driving something with this much power for the first time, and pretending otherwise does nobody any favours.
Three things are genuinely worth knowing.
Cold tyres have much less grip than warm ones, and the first fifteen minutes of a hire is where most incidents happen. Drive it like a normal car for the first ten minutes. That is not caution for its own sake, it is the single highest-value thing on this page.
The throttle is disproportionate at low speed. These cars will not catch you out in a fast corner nearly as often as they will pulling out of a wet roundabout. That is where the power is most out of scale with the situation and where the traction control has the least time to help.
And modern traction control is very good, which is precisely why people get comfortable faster than their actual skill warrants. It is a safety net rather than a substitute.
If this is a first time and the weather is uncertain, the Taycan is all-wheel drive and takes most of the difficulty out without taking the experience out.
Which One to Start With
If you have not driven a performance car before, the Ford Mustang is what we would put you in.
It is theatrical, which is most of what people want. It is considerably more forgiving than the M3. And crucially it is enjoyable at legal speeds in a way that sharper cars are not - a Mustang at 80 with the windows down delivers most of its character, whereas an M3 at 80 is a fast sedan being wasted.
The M3 Competition F80 is the better car by any objective measure and the one to graduate to. It is faster, more precise and more rewarding when driven well, and it demands more attention.
The Camaro 2SS is the rarest and the most attention-getting, with poor visibility as the trade.
Where to Drive From Here
South West Sydney has good motorway access in every useful direction, which makes it a better starting point than the eastern suburbs for anything involving distance.
South-west towards the Southern Highlands is the strongest option: open road relatively quickly, and enough of it to be worth the trip. West to the Blue Mountains is a full day and the better one if the weather is good.
The local roads are not the point and it is worth saying so. This is a place to start a drive from rather than a place to drive in, and a performance car used entirely within a twenty kilometre radius of home is a car being wasted at an extra 25% of the daily hire in cover.
Enforcement, Realistically
New South Wales enforces speed comprehensively, on the good roads especially, with fixed cameras, mobile units and average-speed monitoring on some highway sections.
Fines follow the hire back to the driver named on the booking. It is a consequence rather than a hire charge, and it is worth being clear-eyed about before rather than surprised weeks after.
The useful framing is that the cars are more fun below the limit than most people expect and considerably more expensive above it than the fine alone suggests. There is nothing at the top of the range worth what finding it costs.
Booking
Bankstown is a delivery from either depot, priced by distance and shown with everything else before you pay. Collection from Parramatta removes it entirely if somebody can get there, and both M3s are based there.
Tell us your age and licence status when you enquire and we will tell you exactly what is available to you and what it costs, rather than letting you find out at checkout.
What Happens Before You Drive Away
Worth setting out, because a first-time hirer in this tier often does not know what to expect and it removes a bit of the nervousness.
We check the licence of whoever is driving against the booking. That is a real check rather than a formality - it has to be a full licence, and it has to be the person named. Turning up with a different driver from the one on the booking is the most common reason a handover goes wrong.
We photograph the car with you there. Both of us end up with a timestamped record of exactly how it looked before it left, which is the reason damage disputes on our hires are rare.
We walk through the controls, which on these cars matters more than on a normal hire. Drive modes, traction settings and where the parking sensors are. It takes two minutes and it is genuinely useful if you have not driven this car before.
And we confirm the fuel and kilometre position, and the bond, which is a hold on a card rather than a charge.
None of it is onerous. What makes it slow is turning up without the right licence or with an unnamed driver, and both are avoidable.
Ask Us What You Are Eligible For
The single most useful message you can send us is your age and licence status, before you have decided on a car.
The reason is that it eliminates options instantly and saves you falling for something you cannot have. At 20 to 24 on a full licence, the Performance tier is open and the exotics are not, and the cover adds 25% to the daily hire. At 25 and over on a full licence, everything is open and there is no cover. On a provisional licence, none of it is available at any age.
That is a thirty-second conversation and it changes what is worth reading about, which is why we would rather have it at the start than at checkout where the system simply stops you.
It is also the honest way round. Plenty of operators let you get most of the way through a booking before the age rule surfaces. There is no reason for that other than hoping you have committed by then.

If the Ford Mustang is booked
We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the performance cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.
Ford Mustang
- V8
- Min age 20
- Forgiving
- First-timer pick
The one we would put a first-time performance hirer in. All of the theatre, a good deal more forgiving than the M3, and enjoyable well below the speed limit.
BMW M3 Competition F80
- 450hp
- RWD
- 5 seats
- Two available
Faster, sharper and more demanding. Four doors and five seats mean the cost splits across a group rather than landing on one person.
Splitting it across a group
The M3 seats five. One booking, one payer, and the group settles up. Tell us the date and we will price it.
Guide rates, weekday winter pricing. Longer hires taper; the exact total for your dates is shown before you pay.
The bond held on your card equals the excess of the cover you choose. It is a pre-authorisation, released after return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I hire a sports car at 20?
Yes, with a full licence, on the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS and the Porsche Taycan Turbo, which have a minimum driver age of 20. The BMW M3s need 25. The Exotic and Supercar tiers require 25.
What does it cost extra if I am under 25?
Young Driver Cover at +25% of the daily hire, on top of the hire. It is mandatory rather than optional and it is shown before you pay. At 25 or over it does not apply at all.
What if I have a provisional licence?
A full licence is required. That is a hard requirement rather than a preference, and it applies at every age. If you are on a P plate, these cars are not available to you regardless of age.
Which car should I book if I have never driven anything like this?
The Mustang. It is the most forgiving of the rear-drive cars and the most enjoyable at ordinary speeds. The M3 is the better car and asks considerably more of you. If it is wet, the Taycan is all-wheel drive and removes most of the difficulty.
Can a few of us split the cost?
Yes, and the M3 seats five which makes it the practical choice for that. One booking and one payment method, with the group settling up privately. The person who books does not have to be the person who drives, but the driver must be named and must meet the rules.
What is the damage excess?
$5,000. It is the maximum a damage claim can come to and it is shown with the bond and the hire price before you pay. Worth understanding properly on a car like this rather than skimming.
