A supercar in the Sydney CBD is a strange combination of the best and worst place to have one. The city is where it gets looked at, and it is also full of the exact things a car with 120mm of ground clearance hates: spiral car park ramps, speed humps, kerbside deliveries and stop-start traffic. Here is how to book one without discovering that the hard way.

The Car Park Question, Answered First

On a CBD supercar booking this matters more than the car you choose, and almost nobody asks
about it until the car is already outside.

Spiral ramps are the real hazard

Older Sydney car parks use tight helical ramps with a sharp transition at the top and bottom of
each turn. That transition is exactly what catches a front splitter, and a spiral means you meet
it repeatedly rather than once. Both the Huracan and the McLaren have nose lift, we show you how
to use it, and you approach slowly and at an angle. It works. It is still not relaxing.

Height limits catch people out too

Not for the low cars, but worth knowing if you later swap up to something like the G-Wagon.
Many CBD buildings post clearances under two metres.

What we suggest instead

Where possible, keep the car somewhere flat and accessible rather than three levels underground.
Tell us your hotel or building when you book and we will tell you honestly whether it is going to
be a problem. If it is, we can often arrange the handover so the car spends its nights somewhere
more sensible.

Do not leave it on the street overnight

Kerbside in the city means delivery vans, opening doors and no supervision. We would not
recommend it and neither would your bond.

Why There Is No CBD Depot

Storing cars like these in the middle of the city is enormously expensive and adds nothing for
you. Our nearest depot is Mascot, roughly eight kilometres south. We are saying that plainly
because a business claiming a CBD address it does not have is easy to disprove.

For a city booking we deliver. Most hotel forecourts accommodate a short handover without
issue and concierge teams deal with this constantly. Tell us where you are staying and we will
plan around it, including using a nearby side street if the forecourt is tight.

The Supercar Fleet, Judged for the City

Ferrari FF

Listed first because for a CBD booking it is usually the right answer. The 2013 shooting brake:
6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12, 486kW, all-wheel drive, four seats and a real boot. It sits
noticeably higher than the other two, which makes ramps and humps far less fraught, and it will
carry three passengers to dinner.

Lamborghini Huracan

2019 LP610-4, 449kW naturally aspirated V10, all-wheel drive, 3.2 seconds. The most looked-at
car we own and the reason most people book a supercar in the city at all. Low, so the car park
advice above applies fully. All-wheel drive makes it the safer of the two low cars when a
southerly arrives.

McLaren 650S Coupe

2015, 478kW, rear-wheel drive, 3.0 seconds, carbon tub, dihedral doors. The doors are the most
photographed thing in the fleet and they need less kerb clearance to open than a conventional
door, which is genuinely useful in a tight city bay. It is also the lowest and the only rear-drive
car of the three.

Getting Out of the City

The first fifteen minutes are the worst fifteen minutes. A little planning removes most of it.

Pick your tunnel

Heading north, the Harbour Tunnel is usually calmer than the Bridge and puts you onto the
Warringah Freeway without the Bradfield merge. Heading south or east, the Eastern Distributor is
the fastest way out. The Cross City Tunnel is the one people forget and it skips the entire
William Street crawl.

Tunnels are also the single best place in Sydney to hear a naturally aspirated V10 or V12, and
we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Tolls

Every vehicle is fitted for electronic tolling so you do not need to arrange anything. Tolls
incurred during your hire are passed through at cost and itemised. We do not mark them up and
there is no per-toll administration fee.

Time your departure

Leaving between 7am and 9.30am or 4pm and 6.30pm on a weekday costs you half an hour for
nothing. Take delivery mid-morning and leave once the peak clears. Tell us the plan and we will
schedule the handover around it.

Where to Actually Drive

North to the Old Pacific Highway

Over the bridge and up to the old road between Berowra and the Hawkesbury at Brooklyn. Around
forty-five minutes to the good part. Heavily policed and deservedly so, but the surface and the
sequence of corners are the best within an hour of the city.

South through the Royal National Park

Down the Princes Highway to Audley and onto Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, then Bald Hill and the
Sea Cliff Bridge. The most photographed road in the state and a full day if you continue to Kiama.

East to Watsons Bay

Through Kings Cross and along New South Head Road to The Gap. Twenty-five minutes, harbour views
most of the way, and the easiest option if you only have an evening.

What CBD Bookings Are Usually For

Visitors and business travellers

The largest category by a distance. People in the city for a few days who want a weekend worth
remembering in the middle of the trip. Delivery to the hotel is the whole appeal.

Milestone occasions

Birthdays and anniversaries, usually a single day, often paired with the Royal National Park or
the Old Pacific Highway.

Content and campaigns

The city has obvious backdrops and they are heavily used. Commercial shoots must be declared on
the booking so the correct cover is in place, because standard hire cover does not extend to
commercial production.

Where a Supercar Actually Works in the City

Some parts of the CBD suit these cars and some are actively hostile. Worth knowing which is
which before you plan an evening around it.

Worth doing

The eastern edge around Woolloomooloo and the Domain has wide, flat, well-surfaced roads and
genuine parking. Mrs Macquarie's Road through the Domain at dusk is one of the better short
drives in the city and it is two minutes from the CBD.

Worth avoiding

The Rocks and the older laneways behind George Street. Cobbles, steep short pitches, delivery
vehicles and constant pedestrians. There is nothing to gain and a lot of ways to lose.

The harbour shots everyone wants

Hickson Road under the bridge, and the Mrs Macquarie's Point car park looking back at the
Opera House. Both are accessible, both are flat, and both are far quieter before about eight in
the morning than at any other time.

Booking One

Dates and your hotel or building at checkout, with availability and any delivery fee confirmed
before payment. Tell us the building at the same time so we can check the car park clearance before
the day rather than discovering it at eleven at night. Licence and identity are verified in person
at the handover, the refundable bond goes on at pickup, and the car is photographed with you there
at both ends.

The full process is set out on our How It Works page.

If the Huracan is booked

We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the supercar cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.

Not sure where to park it?

Ask before you book. City car park clearances are the single most common problem and we would rather solve it in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you deliver outside normal hours?

Usually. Early handovers suit city bookings because you get out ahead of the peak, and late returns are common after dinner. Tell us the times you want when you enquire and we will confirm rather than assume.

Do you have a depot in the Sydney CBD?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. Our nearest is Mascot, roughly eight kilometres south. For CBD bookings we deliver, which is faster than a counter collection anyway.

Can you deliver a supercar to my hotel?

Yes, and we do it constantly. Tell us which hotel when you book. Most CBD forecourts accommodate a short handover and concierge teams deal with this all the time. For the few that do not, we arrange a nearby side street.

Will it get down my building's car park ramp?

This is the most common problem on a city booking. Older CBD car parks use tight spiral ramps with sharp transitions, which is exactly what catches a splitter. Both low cars have nose lift and it works, but tell us the building and we will give you an honest answer first.

Which supercar is easiest in the city?

The Ferrari FF. It sits noticeably higher than the other two, so ramps and humps are far less fraught, and it carries four people to dinner. The McLaren's dihedral doors are also genuinely useful in a tight bay because they need less kerb clearance.

Can I park it on the street overnight?

We would not recommend it. Kerbside in the city means delivery vans, opening doors and no supervision. If you have no secure parking, tell us before you book because it changes what we would suggest.

Do I need to worry about tolls?

No. Every vehicle is fitted for electronic tolling. Tolls during your hire are passed through at cost and itemised, with no mark-up and no per-toll admin fee.

When should I leave the city?

Avoid 7am to 9.30am and 4pm to 6.30pm on weekdays. Take delivery mid-morning and go once the peak clears. Tell us the plan and we will schedule the handover to suit.

Can I get it into my hotel car park?

Often, but check before you book. Older CBD car parks use tight spiral ramps with sharp transitions, which is what catches a low front splitter. Tell us the building and we will give you an honest answer in advance.

How long to the Old Pacific Highway from the city?

About forty-five minutes to the good part, over the Harbour Bridge and north to the old road between Berowra and the Hawkesbury at Brooklyn. It is heavily policed, and the surface and corners are the best within an hour of the CBD.

Is there a shorter drive if I only have an evening?

Mrs Macquarie's Road through the Domain at dusk, or east along New South Head Road to Watsons Bay and The Gap. Both are about twenty-five minutes and both are flat, well-surfaced and easy on a low car.

What if I damage it?

Your liability is capped at the excess stated on your agreement, assessed against the handover photographs. Fuel and excess kilometres sit outside that cap, and any additional driver must be listed on the booking or cover is void.
