- Delivered across Sydney
- Bond and fees shown before you pay
- Never swapped to a lesser car
A long term Tesla rental in Sydney works out cheaper than you think, especially when you compare it to the cost of owning a car in the inner city. Our 2020 Model 3 Performance does 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and has 567 km of range, yet it can sit in your driveway on a monthly arrangement for less than the depreciation hit on a new one. We run through who this actually suits, what it costs, and how to set it up.

What Counts as a Long Term Tesla Rental?
When we talk about long term tesla rental, we mean anything from a few weeks to several months. It is not a fixed product with a single price tag. The arrangement is flexible: you take the car, you keep it, and you pay a monthly rate that reflects how long you need it. The rate, bond and any fees are shown on the car's page and in the booking total before you pay, so there are no surprises.
The sweet spot is usually one to three months. That covers a house move, a gap between cars, a project contract, or a stint of FIFO work where you need something reliable at home. Beyond three months, we can usually structure something similar to a subscription, but the terms are worked out case by case.
If you are only here for a week, a standard short hire makes more sense. But if you are looking at a month or more, the maths changes quickly.
Who a Long Term Tesla Rental Actually Suits
Not everyone needs a car for six months. Here is who gets the most out of it.
- People between cars. You have sold your old car and the new one is months away. A long term Tesla rental fills the gap without forcing you into a rushed purchase.
- Contractors and consultants. You are in Sydney for a project and do not want to buy a car that you will have to sell in three months.
- Families with one car. One partner needs a second vehicle temporarily, and a Tesla keeps the fuel and servicing costs low.
- New arrivals. You have just landed and need to get around while you decide where to live and what to buy.
- Businesses. A company needs a pool car for a quarter, or a client-facing vehicle for a short campaign.
What these people have in common is that they need a car, they need it to be reliable, and they do not want the hassle of owning one for a short period.
Why a Tesla Works Well for a Long Hire
Long hires are where electric cars make the most sense. You are not just renting a car; you are renting a different cost structure.
There is no fuel. You charge at home, at work, or at a Supercharger. Over a month, that is a meaningful saving compared to petrol, especially if you are doing a lot of kilometres. There is also far less servicing. No oil changes, no spark plugs, no exhaust. The car needs tyres, brake fluid and cabin filters, and that is about it.
Then there is the driving itself. A Tesla is quiet, smooth and easy in traffic. On the M4 or the M5, Autopilot takes the edge off the commute. If you are new to Tesla, our guide to Autopilot in a Rented Tesla: What Works, What to Switch Off covers what you can and cannot use.
We also handle the charging question. Every car comes with the right cables, and we can talk you through the best charging spots near your suburb.
Which Tesla Fits Your Long Term Needs?
We have three cars in the fleet, and they suit different long term use cases.
Model 3 Performance (Self-Drive)
The 2020 Model 3 Performance is the driver's choice. Dual-motor AWD, 370 kW, 660 Nm, 0-100 in 3.3 seconds, 567 km of range. It has Track Mode, which is a bit of fun, but for a long hire the real appeal is the range and the size. It is a sedan, so it is easy to park, and the range means you are not charging every day. Minimum driver age is 20.
This is the car for someone who wants a fast, efficient daily driver that can also handle a weekend away. You can read about a longer run in our story Sydney to the South Coast in a Model 3 Performance: One Charge or Two?
Model Y RWD (Self-Drive)
The 2025 Model Y RWD is the family option. Five seats, 220 kW, 420 Nm, 0-100 in 5.9 seconds, 466 km of range. It is silver, based in Merrylands, and the minimum driver age is 25. If you need space for kids, prams or gear, this is the one. The range is a little less than the Model 3, but for city driving and the occasional day trip it is more than enough.
For a long term rental, the Model Y is the practical choice. It is taller, easier to get in and out of, and the boot is a proper size.
Model X P100D (Chauffeur Only)
The 2017 Model X P100D is not self-drive. It comes with a Drive Tribe chauffeur. That makes it a different product entirely. Seven seats, 568 kW, 967 Nm, 0-100 in 3.1 seconds, 465 km of range, Ludicrous mode, falcon-wing rear doors. It is blue, based in Merrylands.
A long term chauffeur arrangement is for corporate clients, special events, or anyone who wants the car without the driving. There is no minimum driver age because you are not driving. If you are curious about the performance, our article Ludicrous Mode on the Model X P100D: What It Is and When We Use It explains it.
How Monthly Rates Work
Monthly rates are not a single number. They depend on the car, the length of the hire, and the season. A Model 3 in a quiet month will cost less than a Model X in December. The rate, bond and every fee are shown on the car's page and in the booking total before you pay. We do not do hidden charges.
What we can say is that the longer you take the car, the lower the effective daily rate. A one-month hire is cheaper per day than a one-week hire. A three-month hire is cheaper again. That is just how the maths works when we are not turning the car over every few days.
If you are comparing a long term tesla rental to a car loan, remember that the rental includes the car, the registration, the insurance and the servicing. You are not paying for depreciation, and you are not locked into a balloon payment at the end.
Delivery and Collection Across Sydney
We deliver anywhere in Sydney. That includes the Hills District, the Inner West, the Shire, the Northern Beaches, and out to Penrith. If you prefer to collect, you can pick up from the car's base suburb: Parramatta for the Model 3 Performance, Merrylands for the Model Y and Model X.
For a long term rental, delivery is usually the better option. We bring the car to you, walk you through the controls, and make sure your phone is paired before we leave. If you are new to Tesla, that handover is worth taking.
We also handle the return. When your hire ends, we collect the car from the same address. No need to drop it off.
Charging on a Long Term Tesla Rental
Charging is the main difference between a Tesla and a petrol car. It is not harder, but it is different.
If you have a garage or a driveway, you can charge at home using a standard power point. It is slow, but for most people it is enough. If you do more kilometres, a wall charger is better. We can point you to installers if you need one.
If you do not have off-street parking, you will rely on public charging. Sydney has a good network of Superchargers and third-party chargers. The Supercharger network is the easiest because it is fast and reliable. You plug in, and by the time you have had a coffee, you are ready to go.
We include the charging cables with every car. If you are not sure how it all works, our team can run you through it at handover.
Insurance, Age and Licence Rules
Long term rentals still have the same rules as short hires. You need a valid licence, and you need to meet the age requirement for the car you are hiring.
For the Model 3 Performance, the minimum driver age is 20. For the Model Y RWD, it is 25. The Model X is chauffeur-only, so there is no minimum driver age for the passenger.
Insurance is included in the rate. The bond and any excess are shown on the car's page and in the booking total before you pay. If you have a question about your specific licence or history, our article Age, Licence and Insurance Rules for Hiring a Tesla in NSW covers the details.
What to Check Before You Commit
A long term rental is a bigger commitment than a weekend hire, so it is worth doing a few checks.
- Parking. Where will the car live? Off-street is better, especially if you want to charge at home.
- Charging. Can you charge at home, or will you rely on public chargers? Work out your routine.
- Kilometres. How far will you drive in a month? This affects both the rate and your charging plan.
- Insurance. Check that your circumstances match the policy. If you are unsure, ask us.
- End date. Know when you need to give the car back. We can be flexible, but it helps to plan.
If you are not sure which car suits you, start with the Tesla hire Sydney hub. It lists the fleet and links to each car's page.
How to Book a Long Term Tesla Rental
The process is the same as a short hire. You choose the car, you choose your dates, and you complete the booking. The rate, bond and every fee are shown on the car's page and in the booking total before you pay.
If you need a custom length, or you are not sure which car fits, contact us. We can put together a plan that works for your timeline.
For a long term tesla rental, the best place to start is the car page. Look at the specs, check the range, and see if it fits your life. If you have questions, our Tesla Rental Sydney FAQ: The 25 Questions We Get Every Week probably has the answer.
When I drove the Model 3 Performance on the Spit Bridge climb, the instant torque made the uphill feel flat. That is the kind of thing you notice every day when you have the car for a month, not just a weekend.
If the Tesla is booked
We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the luxury cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long can I rent a Tesla for?
We can arrange hires from a few weeks to several months. The rate and terms depend on the car and the length of the hire. Contact us with your dates and we will put together a plan that works for your timeline.
Is a long term Tesla rental cheaper than buying?
It depends on your circumstances. A rental includes the car, registration, insurance and servicing, so you avoid depreciation and upfront costs. If you only need a car for a few months, renting is often simpler than buying and selling.
Can I take a long term rental outside Sydney?
Yes, you can drive anywhere in NSW and beyond, as long as you stay within the terms of the hire. If you are planning a big trip, let us know so we can help you plan charging stops along the way.
What happens if I need to extend my rental?
Just contact us before your end date and we will check availability. If the car is free, we can extend the hire. If not, we will find you another suitable Tesla.
Do you deliver for long term rentals?
Yes, we deliver anywhere in Sydney. We bring the car to you, complete the handover, and collect it when your hire ends. You can also collect from Parramatta or Merrylands if you prefer.
Which Tesla is best for a long term rental?
The Model 3 Performance is great for drivers who want range and speed. The Model Y RWD suits families and those who need space. The Model X P100D is chauffeur-only, so it suits corporate or special occasion use.
