- Delivered across Sydney
- Bond and fees shown before you pay
- Never swapped to a lesser car
Eastern suburbs formals run smaller groups and higher photographic ambition than the rest of Sydney, which pushes the booking towards one very good car rather than a convoy. That makes the driver age rule decisive, because the cars this postcode wants are exactly the ones requiring a driver of 25 or more.

Check the car and the driver together
Tell us the car you want and who would drive it. We will tell you immediately whether it works self-drive or wants a chauffeur.
The Car This Postcode Wants Needs a Driver Over 25
Eastern suburbs formal enquiries skew heavily towards the exotic end of the fleet: the McLaren, the Huracan, the AMG GT, the Ferrari. That is a reasonable thing to want and it collides immediately with the rule that matters.
Our minimum driver age is 20 on the general fleet. On the Exotic and Supercar tiers it is 25, with a full licence, and it is a hard stop rather than a preference. There is a $5,000 damage excess attached to these cars, which is why.
So for the cars this area actually asks about, an older sibling is usually not eligible either. It is a parent aged 25 or over, or it is chauffeured.
That is not a disappointing answer once you see where it leads, because the six cars we can run chauffeured are the AMG GT, the G-Wagon, the Huracan, the McLaren 650S, the Ferrari FF and the M3 Competition G80 xDrive. That is almost exactly the eastern suburbs shortlist.
Why Chauffeured Wins More Often Here Than Anywhere Else
Setting the age rule aside entirely, a chauffeured car suits a Bondi formal better than a self-driven one for a reason that has nothing to do with licences.

There is nowhere to put the car. Beachside venues on a Friday or Saturday evening sit in streets that are metered, permit-zoned, patrolled and full. A self-driven car has to be parked by somebody, and that somebody then walks back, and at the end of the night walks out again to retrieve it.
A chauffeured car pulls in, the group gets out, the photographs happen, and it leaves. Nobody parks anything. On a night where the whole point is arriving well, that is worth more than it costs.
The other quiet advantage is that a chauffeured booking removes the end-of-night driving question completely, which is the part parents worry about and students have not considered.
Two Seats Is a Photograph, Not Transport
This is the most common planning error in eastern suburbs formal bookings, and it is easy to avoid once stated.
The McLaren 650S and the Mercedes-AMG GT are two-seat cars. That is one student plus a driver, or two students plus a chauffeur. They cannot carry a group.
The Ferrari FF is the unusual one: an exotic with four seats and a real boot, which makes it the only car in that tier that can take a group of four. For a formal that is a genuinely useful distinction rather than a technicality.
The G-Wagon and the Range Rover Sports carry five, and they sit in the Luxury tier, which means the driver only has to be 20 rather than 25.
If the group is four or more and everyone expects to be in the car, the two-seat exotics are not the booking, however much they are the photograph. The workable version is a chauffeured exotic doing the arrival for one or two people while everyone else comes in something with seats.
Where the Photographs Actually Happen
Eastern suburbs formals photograph more than any other part of Sydney, and the good images are not taken at the venue door.
The venue arrival gives you under a minute in a queue. It produces the one shot of the doors going up, which is worth having and is the reason the McLaren and the Huracan exist on this list at all.
Everything else comes from the afternoon: the group at somebody's house, the car stationary, no queue, better light. Because hire is priced by the day rather than by the hour, that afternoon is part of the booking rather than an extra.
The clifftop and beachfront locations that photograph well are also the hardest to stop a car in, so the realistic plan is a house driveway for the car photographs and the coastline for the ones without it.
One practical warning: several clifftop properties have short, steep driveways with a pronounced lip at the street, and a low supercar will scrape on them. If the getting-ready address is on the cliffs, mention it and we will tell you whether the car you want can get in.
Smaller Groups, Simpler Money
Eastern suburbs formal groups tend to be smaller than western ones, which changes the cost conversation.
Fewer people splitting a car means a higher number each, which is why this area gravitates towards one car rather than a convoy. It also means the booking is often paid by one family rather than split six ways, which makes it simpler administratively and worth being clear about early.
Either way the mechanics are the same. One booking, one payment method, and if the group is splitting it they settle up privately. We cannot divide a hire across several cards.
The person who books does not have to be the person who drives, so a student can organise the booking with a parent named as the driver.
The End of the Night
If the booking is self-drive, somebody named on it has to drive at the end of the night, and be fit to. That is a real constraint at a formal and it is better decided in September than at eleven o'clock in November.
If it is chauffeured, this is simply not your problem, which is a substantial part of the value.
The middle option many eastern suburbs groups take is that the car does the arrival and then goes home, with everyone making their own way back. It is the cheapest arrangement, it works, and the only requirement is that the group knows that is the plan before the night rather than discovering it.
Booking
We deliver across the eastern suburbs, usually to the address where the group is getting ready rather than to the venue. Delivery, the hire, the bond and any Young Driver Cover are shown before you pay.
The bond is a hold on a card rather than a charge. The damage excess is $5,000.
November and December weekends are the busiest of the year and the exotic end of the fleet goes first. If the date is known, check it now, because whether the specific car is available should determine the planning rather than being found out late.
Parking Near a Beachside Venue
If the booking is self-drive rather than chauffeured, this is the part to plan properly, because it is genuinely difficult and it happens twice.
The streets around Bondi and the beachside venues are metered, permit-zoned and enforced, and a Friday or Saturday evening in formal season is when they are fullest. There is no version of this where a car waits at the venue door.
The workable pattern is set down and move on. The car brings the group to the door, the photographs happen in the minute available, and the driver takes it several streets back to wherever there is legal space. That is a walk, in the dark, in formal clothes, and then the same walk in reverse at the end of the night.
None of that is a reason not to self-drive. It is a reason to know it in advance, and it is the clearest practical argument for a chauffeured booking in this part of Sydney, because a chauffeured car simply leaves.
Booking Around the HSC
Formals cluster into November and December because they follow the HSC written exams, and an entire cohort of schools lands on the same handful of weekends.
Those weekends are shared with wedding season, which makes November the busiest month of the year for this fleet, and the exotic end of it goes first.
The time to check a date is therefore before the exams finish, not after. Groups that wait are booking in the final three weeks against everybody else, and the cars that make these pages worth reading are the first to go.
If the school has published the formal date, that is enough to ask. Checking commits you to nothing.
Two small practicalities that catch people out on a beachside night. Formal shoes and a long walk from wherever the car ended up parked do not combine well, so factor the walk in when you decide between self-drive and chauffeured. And an evening sea breeze at Bondi is stronger than the afternoon suggests, which matters for hair and dresses in the photographs far more than it does for anything mechanical.
A Bondi arrival is where the Lamborghini, the McLaren and the AMG GT get booked most, alongside our own Huracan and McLaren 650S, both bookable directly. The rest of the catalogue, sourced by request, is on the supercar formal arrivals page.

If the McLaren 650S is booked
We never move you down a tier. If your dates are taken, these are the supercar cars we will offer instead, and we will tell you plainly if none of them is free rather than substituting something lesser on the day.
McLaren 650S, chauffeured
- Chauffeured
- Doors
- No age issue
- The photograph
Doors that open upwards, which is the entire formal arrival photograph, and chauffeured so the age rule and the parking problem both disappear at once.
Mercedes-AMG GT
- Min age 25
- 2 seats
- Chauffeur option
- Presence
Available self-drive if a parent over 25 is driving, or chauffeured if not. Two seats, so it is a statement car rather than transport for the group.
Delivered across the eastern suburbs
Give us the address where the group is getting ready and the time. We bring the car there rather than making anyone collect it.
Guide rates, weekday winter pricing. Longer hires taper; the exact total for your dates is shown before you pay.
The bond held on your card equals the excess of the cover you choose. It is a pre-authorisation, released after return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Year 12 student drive a formal car in Bondi?
No, and not anywhere else either. The minimum driver age is 20 on the general fleet and 25 on exotics and supercars, with a full licence required. It is enforced at checkout. A parent drives, or the car is chauffeured.
Why is chauffeured more common in the eastern suburbs?
Two reasons. The cars this area asks for are mostly in the tier that requires a driver aged 25 or over, and parking near a beachside venue on a formal night is genuinely difficult. A chauffeured car solves both at once by dropping the group and leaving.
Which cars can be chauffeured?
Six: the Mercedes-AMG GT, the Mercedes G-Wagon, the Lamborghini Huracan, the McLaren 650S, the Ferrari FF and the BMW M3 Competition G80 xDrive. Availability is per date, so tell us the night and the car.
How many people fit in a formal car?
It depends entirely on the car, and this is where eastern suburbs bookings often need a second thought. The McLaren and the AMG GT are two seats. The Ferrari FF is four. The G-Wagon and the Range Rovers are five. A two-seat car is a photograph, not transport for a group.
What does it cost if the driver is under 25?
Young Driver Cover is +25% of the daily hire for drivers under 25, and it only applies to the general fleet, because exotics and supercars are not available to under-25 drivers at all.
What is the damage excess?
$5,000. It is shown with the bond and the hire price before you pay. For a booking where the car is worth a great deal and the passengers are eighteen, it is worth the parent on the booking knowing that number clearly.
